He was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, USA to Salvadoran immigrant parents. He is the youngest of four siblings.

Early Life & Struggles

He began singing in church at age 15, though he initially resisted performing there because he felt he had nothing meaningful to share.

Over time he struggled with faith, anxiety, confusion, and depression, including thoughts of self-harm.

At around age 18, during a low point, he sat down at a piano and started singing worship songs. That moment was a turning point, leading him to begin writing songs as a way to express what he was going through.

Sam began by posting cover songs on YouTube.
