Full name: Nathaniel Bassey

Born: August 27, 1981

From: Lagos, Nigeria (his family hails from Ikot Ofon Ikono in Akwa Ibom State)

Early Life & Education

Son of E. Joshua Bassey, who was a minister in The Apostolic Church.

Grew up in a Christian and musical environment.

Studied International Relations & Politics at the University of Lagos.

Did further study in London, including attending Middlesex University Summer School for music.

Musical & Pastoral Career

Started off playing trumpet in church and later joined more formal ensembles. He was involved with the Steve Rhodes Orchestra and a jazz quartet, using trumpet as one of his main instruments.

Over time he shifted more toward gospel music—leading worship and writing songs.

He serves as Pastor of “The Oasis” Lagos, which is the youth church under RCCG (Redeemed Christian Church of God), Kings Court, Victoria Island.

Notable Works & Projects

Hit songs include Imela, Onise Iyanu, Olowogbogboro.

Debut album: Elohim (2008), which had the song “Someone’s Knocking at the Door”.

Other albums include The Son of God (Imela), This God is Too Good, Revival Flames, Jesus: The Resurrection & The Life, The King is Coming, Hallelujah Again (Revelation 19:3), Names of God, Hallelujah Live, among others.

One of his major initiatives is the #HallelujahChallenge, which he started in 2017. It’s an online worship/prayer movement held from midnight to 1am, streaming on social media, and has attracted thousands of participants.

Personal Life

Married to Sarah Bassey since 2013.

They have children and reside in Lagos.
