Biography of Sola Allyson
Full Name: Olusola Allyson-Obaniyi
Stage Name: Sola Allyson / Shola Allyson
Early Life & Education
She was born in Ikorodu, Lagos State, in the early 1970s.
Her early education included Anglican Primary School and Shams-el-deen Grammar School in Ikorodu.
She then attended Government Technical College, Ikeja, where she studied Business Studies.
Later, in 1997, she was admitted to The Polytechnic, Ibadan to study Music Technology, majoring in Voice and minoring in Piano. She graduated with a Higher National Diploma (Upper Credit).
Music Beginnings & Rise
She started singing at a young age (around 13) as a backup singer, working with established artists and contributing to jingles, soundtracks, and adverts.
Her breakthrough came in 2003 when she was asked to record the soundtrack for a Yoruba movie. The track was titled “Eji Owuro.” Because the music was well-received, the soundtrack became a full album under that name, and it launched her career as a solo artist.
Music Style & Influence
Her music blends soul, folk, indigenous Yoruba sounds, and gospel.
She often sings in Yoruba (her mother tongue), while also using English and sometimes mixing with other Nigerian languages.

She is married to Toyin Obaniyi (they met in the church choir) since 2003.
