Biography of Rema Namakula

Full Name: Rehema Namakula (also known simply as Rema)

Date of Birth: April 24, 1991

Place of Birth: Lubaga Hospital, Kampala, Uganda

Professions: Singer, Songwriter, Producer

Early Life & Education

She is the youngest child of Hamida Nabbosa and Mukiibi Ssemakula.

Attended Kitante Primary School, then St. Balikudembe Senior Secondary School (both O-Level and A-Level).

Later enrolled at Kyambogo University.

Music Career & Breakthrough

She started singing karaoke during school vacations and later worked as a backup vocalist.

Her early mentorship came from Ugandan artist Halima Namakula.

She also was part of Bebe Cool’s group “Gagamel.”

In 2013, she went solo after releasing Oli Wange, written by Nince Henry, which became a hit and made her widely known.

She represented Uganda at Coke Studio Africa in 2016.

Personal Life

She has two children: Aamaal with Eddy Kenzo, and Aaliyah with her husband, Dr. Hamza Ssebunya.

Married Dr. Hamza Ssebunya in 2019.
