Biography of Michael Mahendere

Early Life & Background

Born on May 28, 1983, in Zimbabwe.

Fourth of seven children in a Christian family.

He grew up participating in church and music from a young age, influenced by his family’s faith.

Begininng in Music

Started singing at age 7 with his brothers (Akim, Misheck, and Amos) in a group called Mahendere Brothers.

The group released their first project Mwari Mukuru when he was still a child.

Over time, he learned to play several instruments including acoustic guitar, keyboard, and drums.

Music Career & Ministry

He is associated with United Family International Church and leads the UFI Choir.

His “Getting Personal with God” album series is a central part of his solo music ministry. Some key installments include:

Getting Personal with God I (solo debut)

Getting Personal with God II (featured the hit “Mumoyo”)

Getting Personal with God III (includes the song “Chiiko”)

More recent work includes Mercy, with songs like Zvaringana, Tangai Neni, Kudza Jehovah, Nyasha Dzaishe

One of his breakthrough songs is Makanaka Jesu, which gained wide recognition.

Other Roles & Ventures

He is also a pastor, music producer, and music director.

He is involved in live worship event recordings, choir direction, and concerts.

He has expressed interest in creating infrastructure for gospel music, including establishing a studio and a gospel radio station.

Married to Vimbai Nyatsambo since December 2011.

They have three children together.
