Early Life and Education

Nathaniel Bassey was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and hails from Ikot Ofon Ikono in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. His father, Elder E. Joshua Bassey, was a minister in The Apostolic Church and a trumpeter, which influenced Nathaniel's early exposure to music. He studied International Relations and Politics at the University of Lagos and furthered his education in London, where he attended Middlesex University Summer School, focusing on popular music and music business.

Musical Career

Nathaniel began his music career in the church and later joined the Rhodes Orchestra, playing the trumpet for two years. He composed a song during a visit to the late wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Stella Obasanjo, which marked a significant turning point in his career. He featured in the album "New Jazz Stew Project: Revelation" in 2004 alongside top jazz performers like Wole Oni and Yinka Davies.

His debut album, Elohim, was recorded and mixed in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2008. The album was described as a spiritual and artistic masterpiece, featuring the hit track "Someone's Knocking at the Door."
