Early Life & Background
Nathaniel Bassey was born on August 27, 1978, in Lagos State, Nigeria, though he hails from Ikot Ofon Ikono in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
From an early age, he had a love for music, especially jazz. He learned to play the trumpet and was heavily influenced by jazz legends, which shaped his early music style. Initially, he aspired to be a professional jazz musician before fully dedicating his talent to gospel ministry.
Education
Nathaniel studied International Relations and Politics at the University of Lagos. Later, he attended the London School of Theology to deepen his knowledge of music and theology. He also studied music at the Middlesex University Summer School of Music, UK, where he mastered the trumpet.
Career & Music Journey
Nathaniel Bassey began his career playing jazz and highlife music before answering the call to dedicate his music to God.
In 2008, he released his debut album, “Elohim”, marking his official entry into gospel music. Over the years, he has become a household name in Nigerian and African gospel music, recognized for his deep worship anthems and skillful trumpet ministrations.
He is also the convener of the Hallelujah Challenge, a global midnight worship program that began in 2017. It has since become a powerful online revival movement, drawing millions of believers worldwide.
