Early Life & Background
Mercy Chinwo was born on September 5, 1990, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. She is the first daughter in a family of five. Mercy lost her father at a young age and was raised by her mother.
Her musical journey began in the church, where she joined the children’s choir before later serving as a backup vocalist for gospel artists such as Preye Odede, Sammie Okposo, and Buchy.
Rise to Fame
Mercy’s breakthrough came in 2012 when she won Season 2 of Nigerian Idol, a music talent competition. This victory launched her into the public eye and gave her a platform to begin her professional music career.
In 2013, she briefly ventured into acting, starring in the Yvonne Nelson-produced movie House of Gold, alongside Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel, and Omawumi. However, her passion for gospel music pulled her back fully into ministry.
Music Career
Mercy Chinwo signed with EeZee Conceptz Global, a gospel record label founded by Ezekiel ThankGod (EeZee Tee). Under this label, she released her debut album “The Cross: My Gaze” in 2018, which included hit tracks like Excess Love, Omekannaya, and On a Regular.
Her song Excess Love became a global anthem, solidifying her place as one of Africa’s leading gospel artists. She later released other hit singles and albums that continued to bless lives worldwide.
